The apprentice teacher will be given a certain amount of responsibility and will become a fundamental part of the class for both the students and teachers.
Class Descriptions
The following class descriptions are for ages 6+.
Acro
Acro is the beautiful fusion of classic dance technique and the precision and athleticism of acrobatic elements. Acro technique includes balancing, limbering, tumbling and partnering, based in flexibility, contortion and strength. Acro’s roots are in traditional Chinese dance, later appearing as a favoured style on the Vaudeville stage. More recently, acro gained popularity with the wide spread success of the contemporary circus productions of Cirque du Soleil. Main stream media including dance television programs like ‘So You Think You Can Dance’, ‘America’s Best Dance Crew’ and ‘Dance Moms’ have further fuelled it’s demand in amateur competitive dance and studio settings.
Ballet
A codified, classical form of dance with specific terminology and exercises danced to classical music. Our curriculum is based on the Cecchetti Method with influence of Vaganova, Bournonville, and Royal Academy of Dance. Students develop poise, proper placement, balance, flexibility and coordination as well as knowledge of anatomy & ballet vocabulary. Classes include traditional barre, center, adage and allegro. Ballet is the foundation of many forms of dance and an accomplished level of study is necessary to excel in jazz and modern. Students in Levels 3 & up have the option of participating in accredited examinations through the Cecchetti Council of America to test the student's proficiency within each level.
PBT (Progressing Ballet Technique)
Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT) is a revolutionary program which utilizes fitness balls and resistance bands to enhance ballet technique, develop core stability, proper weight placement and alignment. Benefits of PBT include: increased muscles memory, improved flexibility, strengthened technique, improved posture, and understanding of ones body. Classes are taught by PBT Certified instructors.
It is sometimes difficult for students to feel what muscles initiate the correct alignment in ballet. However, as the fit ball is continually mobile under the student’s’ body it gives the students a proprioception for their posture and weight placement whilst feeling each correct muscle groups. Each exercise has been developed with care and guidance. PBT has received positive feedback from teachers’ and students worldwide. Students gain and an understanding of the correct muscle groups that assist each movement, to activate “turn out”, enhance “adage movements”, accelerate “allegro”, activate “batterie”, and control landings. The program also has advantages during rehabilitation from injury.
Jazz
A very popular dance form encompassing various styles. One kind of jazz dance is lyrical with fluid movements; another is more percussive, with accented beats and body isolation movements, danced to popular music. Broadway (musical theater) dance and vernacular dance (popular dances of particular time periods) are included in this category. Classes include warm-up, center barre, exercises to develop strength and flexibility, progressions and center combinations. Enrollment in ballet is strongly encouraged.

Tap
A popular American dance form in which metal taps are mounted on shoes and are used to make rhythmic sounds and patterns by striking the floor. Various styles including Buck & Wing, Soft Shoe, Broadway and Jazz Tap are incorporated into our curriculum. Classes include warm-up, skill development, progressions, center combinations and routines. Emphasis is placed on musicality and sound quality as well as developing proper technique and style, while having FUN! Dancers will learn history of tap as it pertains to class work.

CJT (Conditioning, Jumps & Turns)
This class builds on our jazz curriculum and focuses on the many jumps, turns & leaps commonly used in jazz and dance team (Poms). The class follows the same format as our jazz classes minus center combinations. The first part of class is dedicated to technique, stretching and conditioning while the second half will focus on improving jumping and turning skills. Non-Recital class.
Contemporary / Modern
An ever-evolving dance form that is taught and performed in bare feet and draws on traditional modern dance techniques as well as newer philosophies of movement that depart from classical dance techniques. Our curriculum is based on an amalgamation of styles and techniques from dance pioneers. Classes will focus on the use of the spine, asymmetry, rolls, floor-work, level changes and the dynamic use of energy in movement. Recommended for ballet & jazz students. Those considering dance in college should make modern-contemporary training a priority.

Showbiz Stars
Your “stars” present a mini-musical during the last class in December, and a Song & Dance Medley is performed in the May/June Recital. Class time is spent learning the songs, choreography, and dialogue. New material will always make this class appropriate for repeat students.

Pom
Pom is sharp “cheerleader-like” dance, which blends jazz technique, turns, and leaps with strong arm positions. Specific drills teach the dancer the proper arm pathways to transition from one position to the next. Classes focus on: group unison, showmanship, precision of motions, kick line technique, and visual use of pom-pons. Our Pom programs are designed to train students in Pom technique in preparation for All-Star, Jr. High or High School Poms.
Hip Hop
Commercial hip-hop dance, sometimes called "new style”, is the kind of hip-hop dance seen in rap, R&B, and pop music videos and concerts. Choreography is not specific to one genre (strictly popping, strictly locking, or strictly breaking) but rather an amalgamation of urban party dancing with studio technique added to it. Commercial hip-hop dance continues to change as new songs are released and new dances are created to accompany them. Classes are taught with use of popular music: hip-hop, pop, and R & B.

Hip-Hop: Street Styles (co-ed)
This class teaches street styles of Hip-Hop dance including; popping, locking, breaking, party dances, and being able to freestyle (improvise). Students explore and develop hip-hop dance skills without judgment. Class includes; warm-up, skill development, choreography, improvisation cypher and tons of FUN! Open to all levels - whether you’re a novice looking to gain new skills or a seasoned dancer looking brush up on your skills.

"Super Stars" Rhythm Works Integrative Dance
Rhythm Works Integrative Dance is a ground-breaking rhythm and dance class that uses evidence-based therapeutic practices to achieve developmental goals. To our students, it's a fun and exciting activity that provides participation and socialization opportunities. Special needs include but are not limited to: Autism Spectrum Disorders, Deaf/Hearing Impaired, Developmental Disabilities, Down Syndrome, Speech Disorders, Sensory Integration Disorders.

Lyrical
Lyrical is a dance style that combines elements of ballet, modern, and jazz dance techniques. Lyrical choreography uses lyrics of a song or instrumental music to inspire movement and expression. Students learn to use gesture, facial expression, and controlled movements in order to tell a story or portray a particular mood. Besides emotional connection to music, lyrical dance encourages use of technique, articulation, line, weight, and movement qualities.
Kids Bop
Kids Bop (4-6yr Olds): Bounce along to the beat in this introductory Jazz/Hip-Hop class. For children who love music and like to go-go-go. A Jazz routine is performed in the Recital.

LoMastro Performing Arts Academy is an excellent dance school. My two daughters are currently attending, and due to their school and other activities, it's been challenging to find the right times. However, I've had many discussions with the academy staff, and they’ve been incredibly helpful in finding us suitable class times. Even when certain times weren’t available, they made every effort to accommodate our schedule as best as possible. Also, when I looked into other dance schools, it was nearly impossible to start in November or December. But here, we just discuss with the staff, and they find an available time for us, allowing my child to start right when she wants to. We actually began in December, and there was a class available, so the staff and teachers helped girls start happily. It’s been a wonderful experience for us, and my girls been enjoying their time there immensely. The academy offers a wide range of classes, and the teachers are fantastic. My two daughters are currently attending, and they’re both enjoying it immensely. We love LoMastro Performing Arts Academy , highly recommend it.

Both of my girls have taken classes at LoMastro and love it! My youngest has been in their dance company for two years, and it is the only activity she is always excited to attend. My oldest participated in their musical theater production last year and had an amazing experience. I also have endless questions, and Miss Sam is always very patient and helpful!

I have had my 4 daughters at Lomastro for the last 10+ years and it has become a second home to them. A safe and friendly environment with great results. We started with mom and tot classes and evolved to pointe ballet classes. Many years of Nutcrackers, recitals and competitions with friends who became family. We have been very pleased with the instruction and faculty at Lomastro! The Busam Family

The evidence of the powerful role LoMastro & faculty have played in her life shows through her excelled growth in dance, respected mentors she has found in teachers and the formation of very close dance friends. The indelible studio experience that LoMastro has provided from age three to now almost fourteen has shaped the young woman she is and has made me a very proud dance mom. Bravo, LoMastro!
